Two Drifters - Kathryn Claire & Margot Merah

A Cross-Continental Collaboration from the heart

In a world where folk music so often evokes roots and place, Two Drifters is a rare project that proves home can be a feeling, not a location. This cross-cultural, cross-continental collaboration between Portland-based Kathryn Claire and Amsterdam’s Margot Merah is as unexpected as it is organic. Their story begins, fittingly, in a pub in Amsterdam—one of those magical spots where tunes and fate converge. From that first meeting in 2013, the musical bond was immediate, and it has since blossomed into a heartfelt collaboration that spans oceans and traditions.

Their latest album, Come Close, Come In, is a warm invitation to listeners to do just that—to lean in and feel the richness of their original songwriting, the depth of their musicality, and the rare magic of two voices entwined in breathtaking harmony. The record blends the traditional with the new, the old-world with the Pacific Northwest, creating something deeply connective and refreshingly authentic.

Kathryn Claire’s violin playing rooted in her classical and traditional music background along with her poetic lyricism merge seamlessly with Merah’s storytelling sensibility and rhythmic guitar playing.  Whether playing fiddle, ukulele, bodhrán, or simply letting their voices tell their stories, these multi-instrumentalists craft songs that are honest and tender. There’s strength in their subtlety, and a shared intuition that can only come from a love of the craft and of each other’s artistry.

Having toured across the US, Europe, and Japan, Two Drifters are proof that music really can bridge any distance. Their partnership is a reminder that sometimes, drifting leads you exactly where you’re meant to be.

REVIEWS
“...Playing the vihuela (a guitar relative), David Rogers held everything together with a few poignant plucks, vigorous strumming and the occasional astonishingly florid solo...”
The Washington Post

“...Music to listen to, be amazed by, and to dream upon.”
Akustik Gitarre 6/07

“...first rate instrumental artistry...”
ClassicToday.com

"...David Rogers played his vihuela (a 16th-century precursor to the guitar) not in the tasteful, restrained way of early music groups, but like a lead guitarist in a rock band. He laced the likes of 'De el pobo' with improvised, speedy solos way up into the wailing region of the fingerboard..."

The Lucky Losers

Tickets - $10 at the door

San Francisco's no. 1 touring band & winners of 6 Independent Blues Awards (including Artist & Song of the year in 2021).  Finalist International Songwriting Competition 2020 & 2018.

Described as “the finest light-skinned female blues vocalist in the U.S” [Real Blues - 2010], fiery Dallas-born entertainer Cathy Lemons has a velvet voice with a gritty edge and the rebel conviction of a woman risen from the ashes. New Jersey native Phil Berkowitz "has earned renown as one of the West Coast’s most distinctive harp players, as well as for his sharp, resonant tenor" [Living Blues - 2018]. The stark contrast between incandescent Lemons and elegant Berkowitz makes for a captivating musical union, breathing new life into American songwriting tradition and the vanishing art of duet vocals.

Since 2015, The Lucky Losers have completed numerous national tours, performing on stages in over 42 states. Their artistic achievements have garnered 15 award nominations.

QUOTE:
“The Lucky Losers prove to be one of the fast rising and best duo ensembles on the national scene...Godless Land proves their artistic arrival."

— Blues Music Magazine, October 2020

San Francisco's finest male/female duet fronted band.
